Lumecca IPL Explained

What is Lumecca IPL?

Lumecca is known as the most powerful intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment, specifically designed to address pigmented and vascular lesions. With Lumecca IPL, you can experience a transformation in your complexion and skin clarity. This means that IPL releases light of scattered wavelengths and penetrates deep into the second layer of your skin. Lumecca utilizes photo-thermolysis, delivering a comfortable light treatment that acts as a photo-facial. When this light interacts with pigment cells, they absorb it and convert it into heat, effectively diminishing the appearance of undesirable pigmentation, broken blood vessels, redness, freckles, birthmarks, acne scars, or other unwanted skin discolorations. Lumecca IPL is a safe, non-invasive skin treatment performed at MD Skin Lab.

How Does Lumecca IPL Work?

Lumecca IPL by InMode uses the cutting-edge Lumecca device. Precise amounts of intense pulsed light (IPL) are emitted to target signs of aging, sun-damaged skin, acne scars, telangiectasia, rosacea, and other skin issues. These IPL rays are focused precisely on the area requiring treatment.

The Lumecca handpiece emits intense pulses of light, penetrating the skin's superficial layers to reach deeper tissues, where the damage resides. This light is absorbed by the damaged areas, heating tissues beneath the skin's surface. This process stimulates collagen production, a crucial component for maintaining youthful skin. Collagen and elastin enhance skin elasticity and firmness. Our body's ability to produce collagen diminishes as we age, and external factors like sun exposure, pollutants, and chemicals exacerbate aging. Lumecca's intense pulsed light increases collagen levels in the skin, rejuvenating the skin's network of connective tissues in the deeper layers. This, in turn, improves skin firmness and elasticity, addressing wrinkles, fine lines, sagging, age spots, and other signs of aging.

Additionally, the heating of tissues by the laser rays stimulates the formation of new blood vessels in the treated area. This enhances blood flow, ensuring an ample supply of oxygen and vital nutrients for repairing skin damage caused by UV radiation, pollutants, rosacea, and cellulite.

  • Hands
  • Arms

Is Lumecca IPL Safe?

Lumecca IPL is generally considered a safe and effective cosmetic procedure when performed by trained and experienced medical professionals at MD Skin Lab.

What Happens During A Lumecca IPL Appointment?

The first step of your appointment is a consultation, where your laser technician will greet you at MD Skin Lab. During the appointment, you will be asked about your medical history or any medications you are taking, as they may play a role in your treatment plan. Next, your medical aesthetician will examine the areas you want to treat with Lumecca IPL. Cooling gel is also applied to the treatment area to counter any heat sensation from the laser. Lastly, you will have protective glasses to shield your eyes from the laser rays. From there, the treatment will be administered by your laser aesthetician. You will receive after-care instructions.

How Long Will A Lumecca IPL Appointment Take?

The treatment can last about 20-40 minutes, but it depends on the size of the treatment area.

What Does Lumecca IPL Feel Like?

During a Lumecca IPL session, patients can find the treatment uncomfortable but generally well tolerated.

What Is The Downtime After A Lumecca IPL Treatment?

The Lumecca IPL treatment requires minimal to no recovery time. You can return home or resume your daily activities immediately after the treatment. Please note that the skin or pigmented areas treated initially darken and then flake off after 7-10 days.

How Many Appointments Will I Need And When Will I See The Results?

We recommend 1 to 6 treatments with a treatment every 4 weeks. Depending on your skin concern, you may require maintenance treatments in the future. However, this depends on your skin and the level of pigment, redness, and vascular lesions. MD Skin Lab will provide a tailored plan to achieve your desired skin results.

We typically advise undergoing at least three sessions to achieve the best possible results. However, individual skin responses vary. During your treatment, our medical aesthetician will thoroughly evaluate your skin condition and provide a personalized treatment plan designed to align with your unique skin goals and requirements.

Will I Experience Any Side Effects?

Following a Lumecca IPL treatment, you may experience sensations like a mild sunburn in the treated area, typically subsiding within one to two days. Aside from this, there is minimal social downtime associated with the procedure. The pigmented spots targeted during treatment may temporarily darken (easily concealable with makeup), shedding within an average of 7-14 days post-treatment. You may also notice some redness in the treated area or around pigmented spots.

We strongly advise against sun exposure in the affected area for at least 48 hours after treatment and recommend avoiding tanning the area and using tanning sprays before and after the procedure. It's important to note that we cannot perform this treatment if you have an existing sun tan, as it can lead to undesirable pigment-related complications.
