What is Lumecca IPL and How Does It Work?

Lumecca IPL by InMode uses the innovative Lumecca device, one of the best IPLs on the market. Precise amounts of intense pulsed light (IPL) target signs of aging, sun-damaged skin, acne scars, telangiectasia, rosacea, and other skin concerns. These IPL rays are focused precisely on the area requiring the treatment. Your experienced medical aesthetician at our clinic will determine the key areas during your treatment.

The process of this treatment is focused on penetrating the skin’s superficial layers to reach deeper tissues, where the damage resides. The light is absorbed by the damaged areas, heating tissues beneath the skin’s surface, which stimulates collagen production. Collagen is a crucial part of maintaining youthful skin – it’s something many of our patients desire, as our body’s ability to produce collagen diminishes as we age. With Lumecca’s intense pulsed light, you can expect an increase in collagen levels in the skin, improving skin firmness and elasticity, and addressing wrinkles, fine lines, sagging, age spots, and other signs of aging.  Additionally, by heating tissues with the laser rays, you can expect the formulation of new blood vessels in the treated area. This enhances blood flow, ensuing a great supply of oxygen and vital nutrients for repairing skin damage caused by UV radiation, pollutants and rosacea.

We highly recommend using a medical aesthetician to perform your treatment at our downtown Toronto Medspa, MD Skin Lab.

What Areas Can Be Treated with Lumecca IPL?

At MD Skin Lab, we recommend using the Lumecca IPL treatment on the areas where you experience age spots, sun damage, skin discolouration from acne, freckles, birthmarks, or broken blood vessels. These areas include your face, neck, chest, back, hands and arms. Lumecca IPL is a versatile and precise device, making it a fantastic choice for addressing various skin concerns in multiple areas of your body. Book an appointment with our skilled medical aesthetician at our downtown Toronto Medspa to understand the best treatment areas for your skin concerns.

Am I a Candidate for Lumecca IPL?

At our Toronto clinic, we highly recommend the Lumecca IPL treatment for patients interested in improving their skin’s appearance. As mentioned, it is the best treatment for those who want to reduce age spots and sun damage, minimize acne scars and discolouration, eliminate freckles and birthmarks, and address red and brown spots.

It’s important to note that the Lumecca IPL treatment is specifically for men and women with Fitzpatrick skin types 1-3, which is fair to light skin. This will be determined during your consultation for the Lumecca IPL treatment at our downtown Toronto Medspa.

Is Lumecca IPL Safe?

A Lumecca IPL is a safe treatment as it is performed by our trained and experienced medical professionals at MD Skin Lab. Book an appointment with our clinic for a safe procedure and effective results.

How Long Does a Lumecca IPL Treatment Usually Last?

A Lumecca IPL treatment is nice and quick! It will last about 20-40 minutes, depending on the size of your treatment area.

Does a Lumecca IPL Treatment Hurt?

Great news – a Lumecca IPL treatment is generally well tolerated by our patients at MD Skin Lab. Some patients may find it slightly uncomfortable.

What Are the Side Effects and Downtime With the Lumecca IPL Treatment?

The Lumecca IPL treatment requires minimal to no recovery time. You can return home or resume your daily activities immediately after the treatment. However, after your Lumecca IPL treatment, you may experience sensations like a mild sunburn in the treated area, which will subside within one to two days.

Notably, the pigmented spots targeted during treatment may temporarily darken (easily concealable with makeup), shedding within an average of 7-14 days post-treatment. You may also notice some redness in the treated area or around pigmented spots. We strongly advise against sun exposure in the affected area for at least 48 hours after treatment and recommend avoiding tanning the area and using tanning sprays before and after the procedure.

It's important to note that we cannot perform this treatment if you have an existing sun tan, as it can lead to undesirable pigment-related complications.

How Many Appointments Do I Need To See Results?

At our downtown Toronto Medical Spa, we recommend 1 to 6 treatments with a treatment every 4 weeks. Depending on your specific skin concern, our laser technician may recommend maintenance treatments in the future. Your skin type and the degree of pigment, redness and vascular lesions will determine this.

At MD Skin Lab, you can expect a tailored, bespoke plan to achieve your desired skin results! Our professionals typically recommend undergoing three - six sessions to achieve the best possible results. However, this depends on your skin; we will offer a personalized treatment plan to align with your unique skin goals!
